Architecture is my subject matter.
LEGO is my medium.
To enhance the experience of the everyday is my motivation.
What started as an effort to outlast COVID-19 has provided an opportunity to re-engage with a childhood toy while finding new ways to celebrate the architecture and people of my neighborhood. The builds have since expanded to other communities and architectural icons, but the outcomes have remained focused on understanding the object and increasing awareness in the human context.
While the exceedingly edited, restrained, monochromatic builds initially reflected a sense of ‘emotional promise’ during a challenging time, they continue to attempt to slow viewers down, bring a moment of interest or pause, and create a more memorable and enjoyable moment in time. It attempts to enhance the experience of the everyday.
In this work, and due to the nature of the medium, all efforts are made to omit the extraneous or complex to ensure visual simplicity is presented while maintaining recognition. It allows viewers to appreciate the subtleties of shade, shadow, and texture in miniature while extending that knowledge to the actual building.
